Yantar shipyard starts cutting metal for freezer trawler of Project 5670WSD ordered by Lenin FCF / April 11, 2019 14:45

Kaliningrad, Russia based Baltic Shipyard Yantar (member of United Shipbuilding Corporation) says it has started cutting metal for a large fishing freezer trawler of Project 5670WSD ordered by Fishing Collective Farm named after V. Lenin. According to the statement, the ceremony was held on 5 April 2019.

The shipbuilding contract was signed in 2018. The ship is to be laid down in July 2019 with the delivery scheduled for 2023. The trawler is to be named Victor Gavrilov after a deep-sea master, veteran of Lenin FCF.

5670WSD design is developed by Wärtsilä Vostok, LLC (Saint-Petersburg). The ship’s length will be 121 m, width – 21.6 m, displacement – about 13,000 t. That will be the largest fishing freezer trawler ever built by a Russian shipyard. The ship will be equipped with a pelagic trawl and will have a fish processing plant with a capacity of 150 tonnes per day. Ready products will be kept in freezing holds.

Yantar is the first Russian shipyard to resume building fishing vessels for domestic customers after a long period of time. From 2016 it has been building a series of three trawler-seiners of Project SK-3101R (designed by a Norwegian company) for Fishing Collective Farm named after V. Lenin. The delivery of the series is to be completed in 2019.

Kaliningrad-based Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” (Yantar Shipyard) was founded on July 8, 1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building and repair of warships and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 160 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. The Russian Government holds majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.

AO United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 40 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates the bulk of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
