Icelandic and Russian trawlers taking good catches of Redfish

All four of HB Grandi’s freezer trawlers, after starting fishing on the 10th of May, managed to finish their redfish quotas before the Seamen’s Day weekend. This year’s quota was small at 2600 tonnes, or 650 tonnes per trawler

All three of HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels called at Vopnafjördur this weekend after their first trip deep south of the Faroes. Faxi RE landed late on Friday night, docking with 1500 tonnes of blue whiting on board,while Lundey NS followed on Sunday with 1600 tonnes and finally Ingunn AK arrived late on Sunday night with 2000 tonnes in its tanks. This totals 5000 tonnes of blue whiting landed at Vopnafjördur this last weekend

HB Grandi: First mackerel and herring reach Vopnafjordur

The new season's first herring and mackerel landing of the year was expected at Vopnafjordur last night with Ingunn AK on the way with 400 tonnes on board. The fish were caught in three short hauls and is split roughly 50:50 herring and mackerel, reports www.megafishnet.com.

There has been plenty of activity recently at HB Grandi's pelagic processing complex in Vopnafjordur. Work is scheduled to be completed this weekend so that everything can be ready for the first landings of the herring and mackerel season, which could be here as early as Monday. Ingunn AK sailed last night for fishing grounds south-east of Iceland and Lundey NS and Faxi RE are ready to sail this weekend, reports www.megafishnet.com.

Full production is planned HB Grandi's Reykjavik and Akranes this summer with students on the payroll to cover the regular staff's holidays. At Vopnafjordur there has been a break in production since the end of the capelin season on the 4th of March, and staff have recently been on their summer break. With herring and mackerel fishing set to start at the end of this month, production should be under way again at the beginning of next month ...
