LAST TRIP BEFORE SEAMAN´S DAY COMES TO AN END

June 2, 2014 17:36

Lundey NS docked in Vopnafjördur late on Wednesday night with a full load of blue whiting. This was the last trip before the Seamen’s Day stopover with the festivities due to be held on Sunday. According to skipper Arnthór Hjörleifsson, the intention is for each of HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels to complete one more trip on blue whiting after Seamen’s Day.

‘The fishing has been pretty quiet in Faroese waters over the last few weeks and the fish appear to be keeping to a fairly limited area.’ he said.

Fishing in the Faroese area where the fleet has been active recently has the condition that a separator has to be used to filter out small fish. Arnthór Hjörleifsson said that he has no reason to object to this, but it is not easy to understand why a large area in the north of the Faroese zone and an area in the Rose Garden area in Icelandic waters are both closed.

‘I can’t see why these areas should be closed if we use a selectivity device while fishing,’ he said.

As Lundey was steaming home, Ingunn AK had left fishing grounds for Vopnafjördur and Faxi RE was due to follow soon after, so that all of HB Grandi’s vessels are expected to be in port for Seamen’s Day.
