Salmon and trout farming gathering momentum in Russia's north / October 12, 2011 15:25
During the first ten months of the current year 2011 Norwegian suppliers delivered more than 2.3 million juveniles of Atlantic salmon and 100,000 trout fry to one of Murmansk-based aquaculture plants, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/.
More specifically, the fish fry was shipped from several Norwegian plants such as Olden Oppdrettsanleeg AS, Fjon Bruk AS, Suldal Smolt AS and Arnafiord Settefisk AS. Before being shipped to Russia the smalt was vaccinated and tested by accredited laboratories in order to confirm absence of virus, bacterial and parasitic diseases.
Along with live fish Murmansk farmers also purchase Norwegian feeds. In 2011 they received more than 2,700 MT of such feeds by sea and more than 800 MT by truck.
The vessels carrying feeds and smalt were checked and cleared by veterinary inspectors directly at the production place, namely in Pechenga Fjord of the Barents Sea. The feeds were unloaded to special platforms equipped for mechanized feeding of cultured salmon and trout and the smalt was stocked into cages.
Until the end of the current year 2011 Murmansk farmers plan some more shipments of fish fry and feeds from Norway.
