Vietnamese export of catfish to Russia in first quarter 2010

May 31, 2010 15:57

Vietnam is resuming exportation of pangasius catfish to the Russian Federation as of May 2010, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to the nation's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

More specifically, during meetings between Viet Nam's Steering Board on Pangasius Export to Russia and Russian Inspection Agency for Imported Goods the Parties achieved corresponding agreements to resume Vietnamese export to Russia.

Vietnamese export of catfish to Russia has been yet problematic because of Russia's aim to strengthen quality control of importation to Russia in order to protect rights of domestic seafood producers. However, Vietnamese export to Russia is not expected to be banned as it was in late 2008.

In the first quarter 2010 Vietnam supplied 3.709 tonnes to Russia at a value of USD6.221 million. That is approximately 2 % from total Vietnamese export in January - March 2010.
