The cod quota: 10,000 ton increase in 2010-2011?

June 9, 2010 16:50

The Marine Research Institute (MRI) is recommending a cod quota of 160,000 metric tons for the next fishing year (September 2010 through August 2011), reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Iceland Seafood International.

This is an increase of 10,000 tons from the quota of 150,000 for the current fishing year.  As always, the final decision rests with the Minister of Fisheries but most of the media seem to assume that he will endorse the recommendation of the MRI.  The Minister of Fisheries is expected to announce his decision towards the end of June.
