The sixth session of Russian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Fisheries has been recently held in Teheran, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).

The Russian delegation has been chaired by deputy head of Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency Vyacheslav Bychkov, and the Iranian delegation has been headed by deputy chairman of Shilat Organization on Aquaculture Mehdi Shakuri.

The session's agenda has been focused on the activity of both countries in the sphere of fighting against IUU fishing practices in the Caspian Sea. According to participants of the session, IUU fishing in the sea has been touching mostly sturgeon species.

For efficient elimination of IUU fishing on sturgeon grounds the Russian side has worked out a draft agreement on fighting against IUU practices, which is to become an important step towards meeting goals of Russia's national maritime policy in the Caspian Sea. The draft will be officially forwarded to the Iranian side.

Along with the above issues Russia and Iran have agreed to co-operate towards simplification of export-import trade in aquatic bioresources. The issue will be included to the agenda of the next session of the Commission which will take place in 2011 in Russia.
