The value of exports of Norwegian seafood in May totalled NOK 4 billion. This is an increase of NOK 212 million or 6% compared to May 2010. This year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian seafood stands at NOK 22 billion, an increase of NOK 2.3 billion or 12% compared to the same period last year. These figures mark new export records for both the month of May and the January-May period, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to NSEC.

"There is continued strong demand for Norwegian seafood in many markets. The growth in exports this year to date reflects the very good markets at present for Norwegian Salmon and herring and mackerel products," says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
Exports of Norwegian Salmon set new record

Up to the end of May, exports of Norwegian Salmon this year to date total NOK 12.6 billion in value. This is an increase of NOK 1.5 billion or 14% compared to the same period last year. In May, the value of exports of Norwegian Salmon increased by NOK 133 million or 5% compared to May 2010. The average price for whole fresh Norwegian Salmon in May was NOK 39.21, down by NOK 0.73 from May 2010 and NOK 3.54 lower than in the previous month.

The value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout fell in the January-May period by NOK 96 million to a total of NOK 518 million. This is a fall of 15% compared to the same period last year.
Exports of herring and mackerel up

In the first five months of the year, exports of herring and mackerel increased in value by NOK 330 million to a total value of NOK 2 billion. This is an increase of 20% compared to the same period last year. The January-May period saw exports of mackerel increase in value by NOK 242 million to a total of NOK 711 million. The increase in the value of herring exports is attributable to the upward trend in export prices, while for mackerel the positive export picture is due to growth in both the price and volume of exports.
Clipfish exports also in positive territory

This year to date, the value of exports of whole clipfish totals NOK 1.4 billion, up by NOK 108 million or 9% from the same period last year. The export figures for the different types of clipfish are as follows:
