SIMRAD worldwide conference maps out new sonar direction

Simrad2Simrad's position as the leading technological player in hydroacoustics for professional fishing and fishery research has been strengthened with another successful Simrad Worldwide Conference. The company invited distributors from all over the world to join them onboard the M/V Finnmarken, which left Tromso harbor on 5th October, reaching Trondheim on the morning of 7th October.

63 delegates from 20 countries joined Simrad on the two day event, which saw all attendees gaining a 'Polar Circle Certificate' from the Captain as the route to Trondheim took them through the heart of the Norwegian fishing grounds and past some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

"The conference was the perfect opportunity for Simrad distributors to find out the latest developments in our product range," comments Mads Dahl, Sales & Marketing Director, Simrad. "The main focus was on our new low frequency products and we were delighted to be able to discuss the experiences of the Norwegian fishing vessel Haugagut, which is currently trialling the next generation of Simrad Sonar."

Simrad presented three new sensors for its PI trawl monitoring system. The Geometry Sensor, Seine Sounder and combination Spread/Depth sensors were very well received. With many Simrad customers already relying on the PI system to help improve catches and avoid damage to nets the introduction of new sensors, adding more possibilities, was a highlight of the conference.

The fisheries research community was well represented onboard M/V Finnmarken, with many Simrad distributors working closely with research organisations around the world. Simrad's fishery research experts discussed the latest high-tech developments in its tools for fishery research, focusing on multibeam systems such as the ME70 Multibeam Echosounder and MS70 Multibeam Sonar.

The last night of the conference was the traditional awards ceremony, which gave Simrad the opportunity to thank its distributors world wide for their effort in selling and promoting its products to professional fishermen and the fishery research community.
