Seafood harvest in Kaliningrad jumped almost by 50%

In January-February 2009 Kaliningrad fishermen increased their catches by 49.7% as compared to the same period last year, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to Kaliningradfirst.

More specifically, the region's harvest jumped to 20,700 tonnes. Production of frozen fish less herring in the first two months of 2009 rose by 19.7% to 14,900 tonnes, the output of smoked seafood rose 4.7 times to 42.5 tonnes, and that of all herring products also increased by 93.2% to 1300 tonnes.

At the same time, commodity output including canned fish dropped by 8.9% to 33,000 tonnes, the output of canned and marinated fish decreased by 22.7% to 25.7 million nominal cans of fish.
