Seafood export from Murmansk in the first eight months of 2006

In the first eight months of the current year 2006 turnover of fishing and fish farming companies based in Murmansk, which is the main region of the Russian North basin also including Archangelsk, Karelia and Nenets Autonomous District, amounted to RUR12.86 billion, 26.6% up on the corresponding result of 2005 (in current prices).

According to the province’s department of economic development, the fishing industry index amounted to 106.5% as compared to the same period last year.

Catches of finfish and other aquatic species in January-August 2006 totaled 408,400 tonnes, 10.1% up on the same period last year. The output of food fish products, canned inclusive, amounted to 355,600 tonnes, 9.5% up on the last year result.

Seafood export from Murmansk region jumped by 37% to 195,800 tonnes worth 339.7 million USD.
