Seafish supports sustainable fresh and frozen tuna supplies

January 13, 2011 09:42

The good and bad practices in the canned tuna supply chain will be featured in tonight's programme, Hugh's Big Fish Fight, on Channel 4, but Seafish, the authority on seafood, is today highlighting the UK's excellent supply chain for fresh and frozen tuna, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Seafish.

Seafish Head of Environment, Philip MacMullen, says: "UK suppliers of fresh and frozen tuna have worked for many years to ensure high environmental standards.
The UK industry has been a leader in supporting and driving the implementation of new rules to stop Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated tuna fishing and our tuna is only sourced from legal boats where the flag legality and registration details of vessels are checked and all suppliers can trace their fish back to origin. "We hope consumers watching tonight's programme are not dissuading from eating fresh and frozen tuna, the vast majority of which is line-caught yellowfin tuna."
