Salmon quota 2008 for Sakhalin securing major consents

April 22, 2008 16:07
Salmon quota 2008 for Sakhalin is very likely to be set at the rate of 144,000 tonnes in line with the advice of Sakhalin fishery biologists. The thing is that the ecological assessment, which confirmed SakhNIRO (Sakhalin Fishery Research Institute) scientists' recommended figure, has been already passed. Now the quota is to be finally approved by the Government.

In the meantime, in late April 2008 the Far Eastern Scientific Fishery Council met in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (capital of Kamchatka) to discuss the issues connected with salmon season in 2008 and the results of Pacific salmon fisheries in 2007.
