Russian vets report massive rejections of tainted seafood import consignments

Based on the results of food imports' monitoring and inspections in 2007, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor rejected 201 foreign businesses from importation of food products into Russian and warned them about the need of mandatory compliance with the Russian veterinary and sanitary regulations, according to the respective release received by http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ . In particular, the list of plants approved for import into Russia from the EU has been reduced by 46 companies, 45 companies from the USA, 22 companies from Brazil, one company from Uruguay, 48 companies from China, one firm from Chile, 3 companies from Argentina, 2 companies from India, 6 companies from Ukraine, 2 companies from Moldavia, one company from Belarus, 5 plants from Vietnam, one company from South Korea, one company from Turkey, one firm from Ecuador, 2 companies from Thailand, 4 companies from Norway, one firm from New Zealand and one from Canada.

Fish

As regards seafood, the Russian vets have rejected the following consignments of fish products coming from the EU states:

  • 19 metric tons of fishmeal produced by Denmark-based FF Skagen (due to presence of animals' DNA),
  • 19 tonnes of surimi mince produced by Lithuanian company LT 68-08 EB (due to presence of salmonella),
  • 57 tonnes of frozen capelin roe made by Icelandic plant IS-01713 (due to presence of listeria),
  • 3.4 tonnes of canned sprats made by Latvian company OOO Litsis 93 (ltd) (due to benzpyrene content of 0.00470±0.0014 mg/kg),
  • 15 tonnes of frozen Baltic sprat made by Estonian plant EE 408 EU (due to the products' contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms).

Along with the above, the Russian veterinary inspectors have rejected the following consignments from the USA:

  • 24 tonnes of surimi mince made by the US company CFN 3025921 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms),
  • 24 tonnes of surimi mince made by the US company CFN 3025921 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms),
  • 23 tonnes of hake made by the US producer CFN 3028288 (due to contamination by bacteria of the colibacillus group),
  • 3 tonnes of hake made by the US producer CFN 3025921 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms),
  • 22 tonnes of frozen pink salmon sack roe made by the US producer CFN 3013647 (due to presence of Staphylococcus aureus).

Vietnam

The Russian veterinary inspectors have also rejected the following consignments from Vietnam:

  • 25 tonnes of frozen fish (pangasius fillets) made by the Vietnamese producer DL-152 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms),
  • 24 tonnes of frozen fish (pangasius fillets) made by the Vietnamese producer DL-14 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms, bacteria of the colibacillus group),
  • 25 tonnes of frozen fish (pangasius fillets) made by the Vietnamese producer DL-19 (due to presence of Staphylococcus aureus),
  • 20 tonnes of surimi mince made by the Vietnamese producer DL-272 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms, bacteria of the colibacillus group),
  • 24 tonnes of frozen fish (pangasius fillets) made by the Vietnamese producer DL-347 (due to contamination by mesophilic aerobic and elective anaerobic microorganisms, bacteria of the colibacillus group).
