Russian vets enforcing legality controls for fish exports

August 15, 2007 12:54

In connection with multiple appeals of the fishery industrials Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor has clarified the rules for issuing seafood export permits, according to the body's press-service in Murmansk.

Now, in order to get the export permits, land-based fish processing companies holding no fishing quotas do not have to provide the number of the permit of the territorial department of Rosselkhoznadzor for capture of aquatic biological resources. The volumes of those factories' fish exports will be linked to their production capacities.

Legality of fish catches processed at such factories and meant for export, as well the ownership right for the raw fish will be confirmed by the territorial department of Rosselkhoznadzor immediately when drawing up veterinary certificates clearing the fish cargoes for export. The explanation given by Rosselkhoznadzor does not apply to exports of products made from aquatic biological resources received by the Russian land-based fish processing factories from the territory of other states and foreign-flagged vessels.
