Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor has cancelled the temporary restrictions for Chilean processing plants which have not been approved for export to Russian Federation.

According to the Russian vets, this decision was taken due to the situation currently observed in the Chilean seafood industry and strong demand from Russian market players in supply for Chilean products. The decision was also preceded from the fact that the Chilean veterinary service provided guarantees of the health safety of these products. The restrictions were to start on 1, May 2008 and last till 1 September, 2008.

Meanwhile the next inspection of the Chilean plants will be completed before 1, September 2008.

Similar inspections were held in 2007 and according to their results only 13 plants (of the total number 69) have been approved for export to the Russian Federation.
