Russian fishery in the North Atlantic in September 2006

October 19, 2006 15:16

In terms of volume, the Norwegian spring spawning herring, followed by blue whiting and Barents Sea cod formed the bulk of catch of Murmansk-based and Kaliningrad-based fleets in September 2006 with Murmansk-led North Fisheries Basin traditionally in the lead.

The fishery was mainly conducted in the Barents Sea (bottom fish), Norwegian Sea (herring and blue whiting) and in the Central Eastern Atlantic (pelagic fishes dominated by sardinella, mackerel and horse mackerel).

Some boats also conducted limited operations in the Northwest Atlantic (Greenland halibut and redfish).
