Russian fishery head happy with catch results in 2008

In his report to the Board head of Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency Andrey Krainy has summarized the results for the nation's fishery industry in 2008, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to the Agency.

According to the National Monitoring Centre, Russia's total harvest in all the areas of the World Ocean in 2008 amounted to 3.254 million metric tons. Freshwater fish catches totaled ca.90,000 tonnes of aquatic biological resources. The total production of seafood for human consumption was estimated at 3.162 tonnes. The above results displayed positive trends partly backed by stabilization of the industry's management system, Krainy said.
