October 2, 2007 10:58

In October 2007 Russia will probably make a decision on construction of a fish processing plant in Spitsbergen, according to Russian fishery head Andrey Krainy quoted by RIAN information agency.

The plant's construction is supposed to take 14 months. In October 2007 the Russian officials are going to visit Spitsbergen to look into the opportunity at the potential construction site.

Investments into the project are estimated to amount to 400 million RUR to be sourced from the federal budget.

Emergence of the new plant to process cod, haddock and other species is supposed to encourage the Russian fishermen to land their catches to the plant, Krainy said.
