Russia softens import controls for Norwegian seafood

October 11, 2006 00:00

At a recent meeting of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and Russian veterinary authorities the sides have agreed to postpone implementation of new non-falsifiable export certificates for Norwegian seafood from unreachable deadline of October 1 to October 15, according to Russian and foreign media reports.

Originally the Russians also insisted on approval of all Norwegian factories exporting frozen seafood to Russia by Russian vets, but during the talks this requirement has reportedly been dropped.

Norway’s food safety authority reportedly took Russian concerns about falsification of export certificates very seriously and had already proposed measures that can be put immediately into effect.
