Russia emerging as biggest importer of Norwegian herring

Russia stays the biggest export market for Norwegian herring, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to Norwegian Seafood Export Council.

More specifically, in the first nine months of 2010, the value of exports of herring products to Russia totaled NOK 600 million, 9% down on the same period last year.

The volume of exports in this period can be broken down into 85,000 tonnes of frozen whole herring (slightly down on the same period last year) and 37,000 tonnes of herring fillet products (slightly up on last year).

Ukraine took the fifth position in Norwegian list of the biggest importing countries with the total export value amounting to NOK 208 million in the first nine months 2010. Exports to Ukraine have shown a downturn.
