Results of Kaliningrad fisheries in January 2009

In January 2009 Kaliningrad-based companies boosted catches of aquatic fish species 1.79-fold to 6738 tonnes, reports www.fishnet-russia.com (www.fishnet.ru) with reference to PRIME-TASS.

More specifically, production of frozen fish products, less herring, in January 2009 grew by 28.4% to 4603 tonnes, smoked fish - by 2.9% to 10.91 tonnes, herring of all the species - two times to 379 tonnes. At the same time, food production, including canned fish, went down by 12.9% to 12,613 tonnes, canned and marinated fish by 34.1% to 11.344 million nominal cans of fish (equal to 325g).

The largest seafood producers based in the province are OAO Kaliningradrybprom (plc), AO Kaliningradskaya Rybopromyshlennaya Kompania Tralovogo Flota, OOO Zaprybprom (ltd), OAO Zapryba (plc) and OAO Baltiisky Rybokombinat (plc).
