Provisional results of Russia's chilled and frozen seafood imports

According to provisional expert estimates of Russia's Fish Union (fishermen and fish farmers union), in 2009 the nation's import of chilled and freshfrozen fish and fish fillets amounted to ca.800,000 tonnes at the total value of more than 1.4 billion USD, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).

As compared to 2008, in January-December 2009 Russia's seafood import decreased by 9.2% in volume and 15.3% in value. In the meantime, in 2008 the nation's seafood import grew by 1.2% on the previous year to 881,100 tonnes (worth 1.659 billion USD) versus 870,100 tonnes (worth 1.4 billion USD).

Objective reasons behind the decrease include growth of domestic catch and fish production.

As for fish fillets, in 2009 Russia's import of fish fillets declined approximately by 27% or 60,000 tonnes.
