Produmar Obtains GLOBALG.A.P. Certification

October 5, 2010 11:26

Last September, Produmar farm located in Ecuador, was audited under the GLOBALG.A.P. standards by Union Control. Aquamar farm was certified earlier this year making these farms the only two GLOBALG.A.P. Certified farms in the Americas.  Both farms market their product exclusively through Tropical, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Tropical Aquaculture Products.

GLOBALG.A.P. certification is designed to ensure safety and sustainability for a variety of aquaculture products.  The standard covers a wide range of points of the production cycle including integrity of the product, food safety, responsible use of resources, worker safety and animal welfare.  "GLOBALG.A.P. verifies many of the practices already implemented at our farm. Above all, it has helped reinforce the relationship between the employees and the community," said Eduardo Reyes, Production Manager at the farm.

Produmar closed their production system at the beginning of this year, which considerably reduces any impact they could have had on the surrounding environment, helps control escapes and gives the animals a much more stable environment in which to grow.

With this new certification, the company is reinforcing its continuous commitment to bettering practices for the benefit of its customers, the environment and the industry.
