Overview of Russian import of seabass in 2009 and first quarter 2010
The import volume of fresh seabass in the first quarter of 2010 to Russia amounted to 329 tonnes that is 5 times more from 65 tonnes in the first quarter of 2009, according to a report prepared by FISHNET analysts (www.megafishnet.com).
The import value increased 4 times from RUB15.7 million to RUB62.7 million. Average import price in the first quarter 2010 decreased by 26% from RUB241.00 per kilo to RUB191.00 per kilo.

The bulk of seafood imports in the first quarter 2010 were contributed by three major suppliers of Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. Import volume from Greece in 2010 hiked 141 times from 1.3 tonnes to 186 tonnes (if compared with 278 tonnes imported from Greece in the whole 2009). Importation from Turkey also increased sharply to 111 tonnes in the first quarter 2010 while the total import from Turkey in 2009 amounted to 182 tonnes.
Import volume from Cyprus decreased 2.8 times from 62 tonnes to 22 tonnes.

In the first quarter 2010 the number of importers of fresh seabass to Russia increased. OOO SK Ryba Company increased supplies significantly to 109 tonnes in the first quarter 2010, while in the whole 2009 the company imported 187 tonnes. La Mare Company increased its supplies 153 times from 7 tonnes to 104 tonnes in 1Q, 2010.
Meanwhile, the import volume of another large importer of OOO Jetrico Company decreased from 54 tonnes to 5.7 tonnes.

Import volume of fresh seabass in 2009 to Russia amounted to 689 tonnes. Import value amounted to USD152.5 million. Average import price amounted to RUB221.00 per kilo. Notably, the import volume of seabass in the first half of the year was stable increasing in the second half of the year with the prices reducing due to seasonal production in supplying countries and the rise of demand for the product in Russia closer to the New Year holidays.
