Overview of Russian import of mackerel in 2009 and first quarter 2010 (includes lists of importers from main sources))
Russian mackerel imports showed positive trends in the first quarter 2010, analysts of http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/) concluded after analyzing the Russia's Customs statistics.
Total import volume of frozen mackerel in the first quarter 2010 to Russia amounted to 32,740 tonnes, 30% up from 25,288 tonnes in the same period 2009. Import value also increased though to a less extent by 15.5% only from RUB1.728 billion to RUB1.996 billion.
The Great Britain emerged as the largest supplier of mackerel to Russia though the imports from the country decreased by 3% from 15,764 tonnes to 15,278 tonnes. Imports from Norway escalated 61% from 5,098 tonnes to 8,214 tonnes, while import of mackerel from Ireland jumped more than twice from 3,808 tonnes to 7,931 tonnes.
The number of supplying countries increased noticeably in comparison with the same period of the year 2009.

Total Russian import of mackerel in 2009 amounted to 86,910 tonnes at a total value of RUB5.4 billion, up from 76,781 tonnes at a value of RUB 4.5 billion in the year 2008.
Supplies from the largest export market of Great Britain in 2009 increased to 37,853 tonnes from 30,829 tonnes in 2008.
Norwegian exports to the Russian Federation amounted to 19,608 tonnes making Norway the second largest exporter of mackerel, while in the year 2008 the total import of mackerel from Norway amounted to 15,637 tonnes. Icelandic exports of mackerel to Russia drastically increased to 9,219 tonnes in comparison with 3,482 tonnes in the year before.
Notably, mackerel fillets were not imported onto the territory of the Russian Federation in 2009.
