Overview of freshfrozen fish market of Saint Petersburg and some other regions in mid-May 2007
The past month was marked by changing prices of herring and capelin and some other developments on the market of St. Petersburg, Russia's main entry port for seafood, trading sources told RFR.
Below follow more details on particular species with average prices given as ex-coldstore VAT inclusive for quantities of between 1-10 metric tons unless specified otherwise.
Freshfrozen herring
In January-February 2007 the Russian inventories of Norwegian herring 350+ and 400+ were low and the prices of the products somewhat increased to RUR40.00 and RUR45.00-46.00 per kilo correspondingly, supplies of herring 300+ were sold from RUR28.00 per kilo.
Herring 200-300 was marketed from RUR20.00 per kilo.
Mackerel
Norwegian and Scottish mackerel was available ex-coldstore in Saint Petersburg from RUR63.00 per kilo of the size 400-600 and from RUR97.00 for the size 600+. There were also offers of Canadian mackerel 600+ from RUR95.00 per kilo.
Baltic herring, Baltic sprat
As per 15 May 2007, Estonian and Latvian fish was available from RUR15.50 per kilo on the market of Saint Petersburg.
The demand and the supply got stabilized. In the weeks to come traders forecasted a slight increase of prices as the bridge in Ivangorod used for shipping Baltic sprat from Estonia was closed for trucks heavier than 3.5 tonnes. In that situation trucks had to go through the check point in Pskov region which made the way longer thus increasing costs of transportation.
Capelin
In mid-May 2007 situation on the capelin market stabilized and Icelandic capelin was available on the market of Saint Petersburg from RUR29,50 to RUR33.00 per kilo depending on the count. The counts available on the market ranged from 45/55 to 30/40 per kilo.
Blue whiting
In mid-May 2007 blue whiting prices were stably low from RUR12.50 per-kilo FCA and from RUR13.50 ex-coldstore in Saint Petersburg.
Alaska pollock
Prices of Alaska pollock were stable from RUR46.00-51.00 per kilo ex-coldstore in Saint Petersburg depending on the size.
Pink salmon
Pink salmon slightly appreciated to RUR66.00-70.00 per kilo ex-coldstore in Saint Petersburg.
Atlantic salmon and trout
The market situation remained practically unchanged. Prices for Atlantic salmon were stable and the trend was expected to persist in the coming months. Prices were at RUR185.00 per kilo of the size 6-7, 7-8.
