Outlook for Russian mackerel fishery taking off in Norwegian Sea

June 29, 2010 15:52
Due to absent agreement on mackerel fishery management in NEAFC waters in 2010, the Russian side has notified the organization of its intention to harvest 45,321 tonnes of mackerel in the zone, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/) with reference to Kaliningrad-based AtlantNIRO fishery research institute.

That will become the largest harvest for all the years of fishery management in the NEAFC zone. The Russian mackerel harvest in the international waters of the Norwegian Sea exceeded 45,000 only once, in 1998 namely, when the fishery in the open waters was not regulated.
