Minister of fisheries increases TAC to help fishing towns

Iceland´s Minister of Fisheries, Jon Bjarnason, announced late last week that he is increasing the TAC for groundfish by 12,000 metric tons, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Iceland Seafood International.

This quantity can be accomodated within the existing  fisheries legislation.  The tonnage will be distributed to several fishing towns and villages on the coastline. The most likely receivers:  Flateyri (NW), Arskogssandur (N), Vopnafjordur (E), Stodvarfjordur (E), Olafsvik (W), Grundarfjordur (W). Condition:  The catch must be landed and processed in the community that receives the TAC.
