Sales from Russian Far East hit by uncertainties with export to China

December 4, 2020 10:52

The seafood market situation in the Russian Far East has been overshadowed by COVID-related import constraints on the Chinese market and domestic demand slowdown with the exception of fish products in short supply, reports Megafishnet.com.

As per early December the market has been nearing stagnation. The Russian market players prefer purchasing products when needed rather than build inventories. The demand stays on for scarce products such as Olyutorsk herring, mackerel and salmon.

The cost of seafood delivery from Vladivostok to Moscow by railway is stable at RUR12-13 per kg.

Alaska pollock

Prices of headed APO keep on falling. The price dip is connected with the speculations about possible China’s closure for Russian shipments. Actually, the supply of APO products on offer remain short for the Russian market with the capture quota 2020 being nearly exhausted. Now the fleets are switching to other fisheries.

On the international market frozen Russian pollock 25+ headed stably fetches USD1,350-1,400 per tonne CFR China. Most of APO products from the fishery are currently delivered to the international market. When landed in Chinese ports seafood cargoes go through disinfection causing delays and vessel queues in the harbours.

Okhotsk herring 200-300 is stable at USD650-670 per tonne CFR China. Herring 300-400 fetches USD720-770 per tonne CFR China. The demand remains strong.
