Export of fish and shellfish from Russian Far East in November 2011

November 21, 2011 08:46

November export pattern is closer to winter standards.  There are fewer direct shipments to Japan - just leftovers of salmon roes, the last lots of sea urchin and prawns. Shipments of pink salmon and Pollock have also continued with Russian Pollock exports showing the most interesting developments, reports www.megafishnet.com.

B season of pollock catch started in Sea of Okhotsk in mid-October.  The quota was mostly taken in spring, but some Korean and Chinese buyers imagined it another way.  The buyers expected enormous supply of HG 25+ cm, and their interest to 20+ went down together with price.  There was no real basis for it, and the price soon returned to its normal level.

The quota leftover couldn't really change the situation.  As usual this year, the major part was supplied as WR Pollock for Nigeria.  Price CFR Busan was US$850-950.  By the way, there is information that this country is literally full with fish now.  Cold storages are full, trampers wait at anchorage for their turn to unload, full containers - at container yards.  The major volume of APO HG was delivered from Sea of Bering to Dalian, then to Brazil.  Typical price of the month $1660-1670 CFR Dalian for 25+, and $1380-1445 for 20+

Fishmeal supply to China was at almost zero level, though some new companies have been registered in Agriculture Ministry.  Price CFR Busan or China is $1300-1350.

Pink salmon supply to China is under way.  Prices are stable at level $2200-2600 for Kamchatka products and up to $3000 for fish from Sakhalin and Kuril.

The first herring has reached Korea.  Obviously, it will be re-exported to Africa.  It is not clear at what price it was sold, as no foreign buyer is ready to pay $1100 - equivalent of Russian domestic price.
