Expectations of price rise on Moscow salmon and trout market turning true in mid-May 2021

As per mid-May 2021 wholesale prices for frozen salmon from Chile have been on a rise in Moscow, just in keeping with the traders’ expectations, reports Megafishnet.com.

In the second week of May the Russian importers raised their prices by RUB10-20.00 per kilo and they were going to do it in the coming week. They attribute the price rise to the USD exchange rate, to the short supply this summer and to the limited supply of chilled fish from Murmansk.

At the same time, Russian Sea - Aquaculture LLC - one of the nation's leaders in Atlantic salmon and trout culture – is going to close some of its farms in July for maintenance, but this will touch only the company’s trout facilities, while salmon will be harvested though in limited volumes.

Baltic Coast (TD BALTIISKIY BEREG LLC), one of the biggest producers of final fish products in the Russian Northwest, is not going to close, but the production volumes will be moderate. At present large fish supply is short, just like that of ordinary quality fish.

The Faroese salmon has appreciated, there is no supply for new contracts now. The market has been facing a slight shortage.

Prices for Turkish chilled trout have been following an upward trend. Evidently, there is no lack of salmonids on the market, but rather a seasonal shortage of products alternative to the Chilean salmon that commands prices on the Moscow market of salmon and trout.
