Ecuador’s fishing and aquaculture companies getting ready for Russian video inspection

On April 21, negotiations between Russia’s vet watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor and the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of the Republic of Ecuador took place in a video conference format to help boost seafood export from Ecuador, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, it was noted that despite the pandemic, there was an increase in the volume of supplies of Ecuadorian fish and seafood to Russia. Thus, as per April 16, 2021, compared to the same period last year, the shipments of frozen fish increased 2.5 times to 5.4 thousand metric tons while the crustaceans export doubled to 8.5 thousand tons.

During the negotiations, Rosselkhoznadzor announced the lifting of temporary restrictions on the supply of seafood from one of the Ecuadorian enterprises as of April 21, 2021. The decision was made after the Ecuador Quality and Safety Secretariat provided all the reports requested by the Russian vet watchdog.

In the near future, the parties intend to agree on a plan for conducting video inspections of 26 Ecuadorian aquaculture and fishing companies to include them in the Register of third-country enterprises allowed to export to the territory of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Union.
