Chilled salmonids may reshape Moscow’s salmon and trout market

On the eve of September, the preseason trends of the wholesale market for salmon and trout in Moscow are still in the making as chilled and frozen products are competing for shares, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to FishNet, the Chilean salmon has stopped appreciating at last week's prices. The ratio of price and quality played a role, beefed up by interesting offers of chilled Atlantic salmon from Murmansk as some of the volumes have clearly switched to chilled fish. In addition, there are no offers of Murmansk trout yet, while it normally has a significant market share.

Faroese Atlantic salmon continues to depreciate, and this already looks like a trend, and not a one-time plunge in prices.

There are few offers of trout. Against this background, Armenian trout has reached its record prices in history while the Karelian fish harvest is still far away. Besides, there is no understanding of prices for it this year yet. On the one hand, it was a hot summer, which means that its quality is questionable, on the other, outlook is for a cold autumn. There is a possibility that the harvest will start earlier, and the market will need to adjust again.
