Long An: 882MT of shrimp harvested in the first crop

It is reported that brackish water shrimp farming area in Long An province in the first crop amounts to 3,467ha, equivalent to 57.78 percent of the year's plan, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to VASEP.

Currently, more than 553ha have been harvested with an output of more than 882MT.

This year, the rainy season comes later than the previous years, thus hot makes water levels in farming ponds were lowered by hot weather, while salinity was increased. Farmers had to harvest their crop earlier than schedule. In addition, some shrimp farming ponds are infected with the white spot disease.

To prevent disease outbreaks, Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development had speeding up diseases preventive information dissemination, implement precautionary measures such as good management of farming ponds, and frequently testing water environment to take timely treatments.

At the same time, it is essential to boost technical training and cautioning farmers to comply with the technical procedures set by competent agencies to minimize risks and improve economic efficiency.
