Kaliningrad-based fishery research institute AtlantNIRO has issued the results of fishery monitoring from 2nd to 8th March 2010, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to AtlantNIRO.

Baltic Sea. Russian Zone, 26th subarea International Council for Exploration of Sea

In the Russian Zone up to 15 small trawlers fished sprats. Mainly twin trawling method was used. Sprat concentrations were harvested in the subarea's south and сentre. The fishery situation was fairly good with the catch rates amounting to 20-35 tonnes per vessel. The demersal trawl cod fishery was carried out by a group of 3-5 MRTK and MRTR small trawlers. Catches were reported as satisfactory.

Rockall

A group of Russian trawlers was targeting blue whiting in the Rockall area. The catch situation was good.

Mauritania

Russian vessels were scattered along the whole shelf with the trawlers forming local expeditions on the fishing grounds. In the northern area Kaliningrad-based trawlers operated while their Murmansk-based colleagues fished in the south of the area. Horse mackerel dominated on all the grounds with the bycatch containing mackerel, sardinella and sardine. Seasonal complication of catch situation was perceived especially in the north of the area where it resulted first of all in deterioration of species structure of the harvest.
