VENUS DELIVERY GETS CLOSER

March 13, 2015 09:06

The new Venus NS, HB Grandi’s new pelagic vessel under construction in Turkey, is expected to go on sea trials on the 22nd of this month. If everything goes according to plan, the company expects to take delivery of the new vessel next month.

According to Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson, who has overseen the construction at the Celiktrans Deniz Insaat Ltd yard, the last few days have been busy ones with all of the ship’s systems being started up and tested.

‘All of the gensets have been load tested and the main engine has been run. We’ll load test the shaft generator early next week. We have technicians from Rapp and Triplex to check and run the winch systems. Once the shaft generator has been tested, we can run the thrusters,’ he commented.

He said that the decks have been painted, the engine room painting is almost finished and the finishing touches are being put to the floors of the wheelhouse and accommodation. Some of the furnishing have been put in place and the galley, cold store and freezer are being finished now.

‘Víkingur AK is making progress, with the main engine and gearbox in place, along with the shaft generator and the gensets. All of the blocks have been built and the ship is coming together well,’ Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson said
