FAF to auction deep water crab shares

January 9, 2021 09:57

At the close of 2020, Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries (FAF) ordered that an electronic auction be held for the sale of deep water crab quota shares, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to FAF, the auction is scheduled to be held on the site of the Russian Auction House on February 2, 2021 while applications for participation are open until January 28.

Two of the quota share packs were put up for sale. Each set includes a bairdi tanner crab quota share for fishery in the Primorye subzone and the West Sakhalin subzone, and a triangle tanner crab quota share in the North Okhotsk and East Sakhalin subzones. The size of each share is 16.666%, the initial price of the lot slightly exceeds 261.5 million rubles.

According to the general rules, the auction winners will be able to harvest the purchased allocations from 2022. Besides, the rights are burdened with the obligation to build crabbers at Russian shipyards.

However, these crabs are of poor demand and the two sets of quota shares are the unsold remains from the previous auction held in October last year now offered at a smaller initial price.

The last time six lots were offered. Four of them were purchased by the only interested bidder JSС Tephida.
