Different trends for frozen and canned fish output in 2020

In 2020 Russia’s frozen fish output and canned fish production displayed different trends, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Rosstat figures published by TASS, last year 3 million metric tons of frozen fish items were totally produced displaying a 0.2% increase versus 2019.

Production of frozen fish in December amounted to 224.8 thousand tons, which is 3.6% more than in December 2019, but 2.5% less than in November 2020.

Fish fillets

In 2020 the production of frozen fish fillets increased by 6.6% (compared to 2019) to 173.9 thousand tons, while fresh or chilled fish fillets decreased by 6.0%, to 3.5 thousand tons.

Fish fillet output in December hit 14.9 thousand tons, which is 48.5% more than in December 2019, and 14.6% more than in November 2020.

Fresh or chilled fish fillets production in December was insignificant at 322.4 tons, which is 5.6% less than in December 2019, but 0.1% more than in November 2020.

Canned fish

In 2020 the canned fish output decreased by 5.5% year-on-year to 601.7 million standard cans. In particular, in December, the sector produced 45.7 million standard cans of fish, which is 14.9% less than in December 2019, and 5.3% less than in November 2020.
