Chile willing to win a bigger share on the Russian fish market

Russia’s vet watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor held video negotiations with representatives of the National Service for Fisheries and Aquaculture of Chile (Sernapesca), reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the parties discussed the technical possibilities of remote inspections of Chilean suppliers of wild and farmed fish products for export to Russia. Sernapesca was also keen on expanding the list of such companies. By present 14 companies have submitted applications to Sernapesca as ready for the inspections in a remote format.

During the talks, the Chilean side spoke about the nation’s measures against the spread of the new coronavirus as applicable to the seafood trade. Those include mandatory disinfection of all the products meant for export. Sernapesca also made a proposal to Rosselkhoznadzor to take part in an intergovernmental consulting group dealing with the issues of ensuring sanitary requirements in the supply of fishery and aquaculture products.
