Catch and quota progress in Northeast/Northwest Atlantic and Central East Atlantic in January 2021

In January 2021 few Russian trawlers were targeting various species at East and West Greenland, NAFO regulatory area and in the Mauritanian EEZ, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Fishnet.ru, TSM Oma trawler coming from Murmansk-led North Fisheries was targeting gurnard and haddock near Rockall and she reported a total catch of 203 tonnes, of which gurnard made up ca.86%, haddock – 10% and other species – 4%.

Northwest Atlantic (NAFO Regulatory Area)

In January 2021 Severnaya Zvezda trawler owned by OOO RKF from Murmansk-led North Fisheries was operating in various small zones of the Northwest Atlantic (NAFO Regulatory Area). The trawler conducted the dedicated fishery of redfish, flounder and halibut. Through the first month of the year she harvested 346 tonnes of fish, including 47% of redfish, 32% of European flounder, 14% of halibut and 7% of other species.

Mauritania

In Mauritania EEZ, two trawlers of Kaliningrad-based Westrybflot, Alexander Mironenko trawler of AO Taurus from Russia’s North Fisheries and two trawlers owned by OOO Magadanpromflot from the Far East Basin were engaged in the pelagic trawl fishery. The fishery situation in the course of the month was uneven and often weak. On 10 January 2021 Kaliningrad vessels left the area.

The Russian catches in the Mauritanian waters in January 2021 amounted to 4,700 tonnes (+2,100 tonnes YOY), of which horse mackerel accounted for 60%, sardine – 18%, mackerel – 3% and bycatch of other fish species - 19%.
