Blue whiting getting lively

HB Grandi’s pelagic vessel Venus is back on the fishing grounds after its latest landing at Vopnafjördur last week. Fishing grounds are now east of the Faroe Islands, and according to the skipper for the last trip, Róbert Axelsson, the blue whiting are following much the same migration pattern as they did during last year’s season, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to HB Grandi.

‘We were fishing south-east of the Faroes and the fishing was good. We had roughly 2500 tonnes after around five days of fishing. We also spent almost three days steaming each way to and from the fishing area, so that made the trip a week,’ he said.

Even though Venus was at Vopnafjördur to land on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, the ship was back fishing Friday morning.

‘They get the fish discharged quickly and we have a fantastic landing team at Vopnafjördur,’ he said.

Venus is due to be slipped in Akureyri after its next landing for a inspection required under the terms of the contract with the builder.
