VENUS DUE AT VOPNAFJÖRDUR MID-MAY

The latest addition to the Icelandic fleet, Venus NS-150, is due to reach its home port of Vopnafjördur in the middle of May. The new pelagic vessel is being built in Turkey and will replace Lundey NS.
‘We have carried out sea trials that went well, with no significant problems,’ said Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson, who has overseen the construction at the Celiktrans Deniz Insaat yard of the new Venus and its sister vessel Víkingur AK-100 on behalf of HB Grandi.
He commented that during the sea trials to focus was on fine-tuning the new ship’s systems.
‘We tested the main engine, the reduction gear and the stern gear, as well as a load test on the shaft generator. In addition, we carried out tests on the thrusters, the steering, the RSW system, the C-Flow vacuum pump discharging systems, plus the navigation and control systems in the wheelhouse. Everything performed as expected. After the sea trials the new ship passed its stability tests easily. The next stage is to go back onto the slipway on the 29th of April for two days and after that we’ll start getting things ready for the delivery trip. Gudlaugur Jónsson, who will be the skipper, was at the helm during the sea trials and he’ll also be taking the ship home to Iceland,’ Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson said.
Venus is the first of five new vessels that HB Grandi is having built at the Celiktrans Deniz Insaat yard, with three wetfish trawlers scheduled to be built as well as the two pelagic vessels.The first of these, Engey RE, is due to be delivered in the middle of next year.
