Rosselkhoznadzor and Representatives of Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishery discuss schedule of Russian establishments audit

On September 24, 2018 Rosselkhoznadzor Deputy Director Konstantin Savenkov and Head of the Directorate for International Cooperation and Veterinary Control of Export/Import and Transportation Artem Daushev held talks with Director of the Veterinary service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishery of Algeria Hachimi Karim Kaddour in Moscow. The meeting was organized within the framework of the audit of the Russian safety system during production and sales of meat products carried out by the Algerian specialists. 

The parties considered the schedule for the Algerian delegation visit to Russia which would allow them to get a clear view of the Russian system of state veterinary control, powers and functions vested with the Rosselkhoznadzor. The Algerian specialists will audit a meat-processing plant in Bryansk region willing to export to Algeria and visit a multipurpose sea cargo complex ‘Bronka’ (Saint Petersburg Big Port). In order to acquaint the Algerian auditors with the current epizootic situation  as well as with measures taken by the Rosselkhoznadzor for prevention and combating dangerous animal diseases, the schedule will include visiting of two establishments subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor – the Federal Centre for Animal Health (FGBI ‘ARRIAH’) and the FGBI ‘Leningrad Interregional Veterinary Laboratory’.   

The Algerian colleagues expressed their interest in enhancing cooperation and experience exchange between scientific institutes of two countries in the field of epizootic well-being and articulated their desire to find out more about Russia’s achievements in developing vaccines against dangerous animal diseases.

Konstantin Savenkov emphasized the fact that the FGBI ‘ARRIAH’ obtained international status of the OIE Regional reference laboratory for FMD and the OIE Reference laboratory for Highly and Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza and Newcastle disease and the scientific research of the Institute’s staff, diagnostica and vaccines were successfully used in Russia and abroad to prevent the spread of the above-mentioned diseases.

A major requirement for exporting products of animal origin to Algeria is traceability. In this connection, the Rosselkhoznadzor specialists assured their counterparts that the process had become completely transparent after the introduction of the system of obligatory electronic veterinary certification. Upon a respective request, the Algerian party would be granted access to the Federal State Information System ‘Mercury’.

At the end of the meeting the parties reviewed the safety of Russian feed and feed additives, state monitoring system during feed exports and agreed to sum up the results of the inspection at a closing meeting at the Rosselkhoznadzor on September 28.
