Icelandic fishing fleet at the end of 2009

At the end of the year 2009 the total number of fishing vessels, registered at the Icelandic Maritime Administration, was 1,582, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.

The number increased by 53 vessels from the previous year. The number of decked vessels was 768 and their combined size was 86,769 gross tonnages (GT). The number of decked vessels had decreased by 1 item but their total size increased by 379 GT. The number of trawlers was 58 at the end of 2009 and their total size amounted to 67.870 GT. The number of trawlers decreased by 2 from previous year and their combined size decreased by 2,019 GT. The number of registered undecked vessels was 756 in 2009 and 3,614 GT. Undecked vessels increased by 56 in number from 2008 and their total size by 266 GT.
