Icelandic fish catches in May 2010

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in May 2010 was 73,569 tonnes compared to 64,239 tonnes in May 2009, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.

Demersal species accounted for 38,800 tonnes, thereof cod nearly 14 thousand tonnes, haddock 7 thousand tonnes, redfish 2,400 tonnes and saithe 4 thousand tonnes. The pelagic catch was 29 thousand tonnes, nearly all blue whiting.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 5.5% in May 2010 compared with May 2009.
