Icelandic fish catches in January 2011

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in January 2011 was 119,345 tonnes compared to 55,523 tonnes in January 2010. Demersal species accounted for 25 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 13 thousand tonnes, haddock nearly 4 thousand tonnes, redfish 3 thousand tonnes and saithe 2 thousand tonnes, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Statistics Iceland.

The pelagic catch was 93 thousand tonnes, thereof capelin over 82 thousand tonnes and pearlside over 6 thousand tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 13.9% in January 2011 compared with January 2010.
