Frozen fish market situation in Murmansk as per 7 October 2008
As per 7 October 2008 the fresh frozen fish market situation has been marked by increasing prices of some fish species, market players based in Murmansk told http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).
The week under consideration was characterized by the rise of activity on the fish market, the inventories in the regions of Russia are to come to an end and the market is displaying high demand for practically all the items of the fish range. The favorable situation on the foreign markets caused many fleets to export the bulk of their products that increased the shortage of the fish on the domestic market.
The high demand of processing companies for bottomfish species has been making traders to import raw material of the foreign origin. There appeared offers of spotted sea cat originating from Norway at a price of ca.RUB100.00 per kilo.
The situation on the market with blue whiting supply has stayed tough that contributed to the increase of prices of this position.
The supply of haddock of different sizes both of onshore and at sea processing has been good.
The supply of blue whiting has been limited. The supply of herring has also been short and the main volumes are landed in St. Petersburg rather than in Murmansk. The average herring prices have slightly increased.
