Frozen fish market situation in Murmansk as per 13 January 2009
As per 13 January 2009 the fresh frozen fish market situation has been marked by a number of changes, market players based in Murmansk told http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).
More specifically, the prices of herring have been stable. The Russian herring size 200 - 300 has been offered at a price of RUB23.00, and herring 300+ at RUB30.00-31.00. The herring of the same size from Norway was marketed at the end of the year 2008 at a price of RUB 29.50. The Norwegian herring of a larger size has been traded at RUB34.00 per kilo.
The imported herring fillet of Norwegian and Icelandic origin has been sold in Murmansk at a price from RUB 45.50 to RUB47.00 per kilo. Besides, there are offers of Norwegian mackerel 300 - 500 at a price from RUB58.00 per kilo.
The blue whiting was marketed mainly at RUB 24.00-25.00 per kilo, while the extended shelf life product of the March 2008 season was offered at RUB 22.80 - 23.00 per kilo.
The prices of polar cod (Boreogadus saida) have been relatively not high, namely RUB 14.00 - 15.00 per kilo in comparison with the price of this category in the end of the year 2007 (RUB16.00 - 17.00 per kilo).
The prices of halibut have stayed high at a level of RUB155.00 - 165.00 per kilo, while the same species in January 2008 was sold at RUB110.00 - 130.00 per kilo.
Strong supply of haddock and cod resulted in relatively not high prices of these species this season. The cod 1+ produced on-shore has been offered from RUB 65.00 per kilo, while the same one processed at sea has been marketed from RUB72.00 to 74.00 per kilo. For comparison, at the beginning of the year 2008 cod 1- was sold at RUB80.00 - 100.00 and the cod 1+ was offered at RUB95.00 - 110.00 per kilo.
The Norwegian saithe has been marketed at a price RUB54.00 - 56.00 per kilo, while the fish of fresh catches has been offered already at a price of RUB57.00 per kilo.
