Frozen fish market situation in Murmansk as per 11 December 2007
As per 11 December 2007 the fresh frozen fish market is being marked by an increase of prices of practically all fish species, market players based in Murmansk told http://www.fishnet-russia.com/ (https://www.fishnet.ru/).
The prices have been increasing this week and taking into account the current season they will come up even more, the players predicted.
The price of blue whiting has increased this month by RUB 7 per kilo. The current catch is 74,000 tonnes behind in comparison with the year 2006, while the quota has been covered only at 75%.
The shortage of blue whiting on the market was partially covered by big catches of polar cod (Boreogadus saida). The catch volume of polar cod has been nearly doubled this year. However, this amount is still not enough to meet the demand of the market and the increase of prices of both of these fish species is expected to grow further.
